Courses This Term
From September to April 2018-19 I am teaching a first-year course in the Department of English, Film and Theatre entitled "Representative Literary Works". The primary aim of this course is to help improve students’ reading, writing and critical thinking skills through detailed examination of works of poetry, fiction, drama and nonfiction from several different eras and regions. I define “literature” in a broad sense as language-based works of text and performance, including theatre, film, graphic novels, manifestoes, and spoken word, as well as the more commonly known literary genres. The course reading schedule can be found here.
From January to April 2019 I am also teaching a joint Honours/Graduate course entitled “Indigenous Literature and Environmental Politics”. This course examines fiction, poetry, drama and film by Indigenous artists who are responding to traditional environmental teachings, colonial incursions upon traditional Indigenous land-use, and Indigenous critiques of contemporary environmental practices. The course reading schedule is posted here.
